In line with its retail push, Monocle magazine just opened a pop-up shop in Singapore. The shop-in-shop at Books Actually, an independent bookstore, will be open through Sunday.
Tyler Brûlé, Monocle’s editor-in-chief, said at a cocktail party Thursday evening that the Singapore concept was inspired by the success of a similar shop-in-shop in Hong Kong’s Lane Crawford department store last year.
“Singapore is probably too close to Hong Kong and Tokyo for another shop,” said Brûlé, referring to the magazine’s two permanent stores in those Asian cities. “So if we look ahead it’s probably further away, in Sydney. But who knows?”
